I Unintentionally Paid Twice Online My Pag-IBIG Contribution

Posted on May 2, 2017 Leave a Comment

It’s one of those days, I should have paid attention before confirming an online transaction.

And moving way back further, I should have updated my spreadsheet.

Yes, I successfully paid my Pag-IBIG monthly contribution online . . . twice . . . for the same month (April). Obviously, it was NOT part of the plan.

What Went Wrong

My goal is to complete the 24-month contribution to qualify for a Pag-IBIG housing loan. To accomplish my goal, I paid in advance whenever I can; if not, I make sure to pay the monthly contribution for the month.

I always keep a soft copy of the receipt (in PDF format) on my computer. Good thinking right!

Pag-IBIG Contribution for March to April 2017

The proof horrified me. Then I blamed myself.  With disbelief, I updated the spreadsheet while mumbling “Never again!” to myself.

The more costly the consequence is, the more likely I’ll learn from my mistake.

And part of the learning is finding solution. I found the contact information of Pag-IBIG which I wrote a few days ago.

How to Transfer Pag-IBIG Contribution to Another Month

It was proven again that I get faster response through social media. The Pag-IBIG staff on Facebook advised me to send an email to ofwcenter@pagibig.gov.ph and attached  the copy of payment receipt.

A day later, I received an email confirming that my contribution for April is transferred to May.

You can further confirm it by requesting Employee’s Statement of Accumulated Value (ESAV). I prefer to request ESAV at the end of the year or first month of the following year. If there are discrepancy of record, I have soft copy of receipts to prove that payments have been made.

The Moral of the Story

I will immediately update my spreadsheet and check the receipt before paying online the Pag-IBIG monthly contribution.

This incident, though embarrassing to share, has thought me a lesson of how important mindfulness is.

Imagine if I made a mistake in buying or selling a stock, ETF, or mutual fund. How much can I lose with a click of a button and wandering mind?

Don’t make the same mistake as I did. But if you do, at least, you know what to do and comes along the unforgettable lessons.
