My Minimalist Dining Set from Wayfair

Posted on August 7, 2020 Leave a Comment

After I was done buying stuff for kitchen and bathroom for my new apartment, I had to tackle the next important task.

Or maybe skip it over. Forget about it.

Do I even need a dining set?

I’ve known minimalist vloggers and bloggers who are living furniture free.

But after days of eating on a yoga mat and countertop, I knew a dining table is a must have.

Also my living room and kitchen area were empty aside from having fridge, sink, and oven. The space can become a dojo where I can learn kickboxing.

I need a dining set and I know just where I can get one: Wayfair. This post isn’t sponsored by Wayfair, a company I happened to discover years ago.

Why I Shop on Wayfair.ca

I bought Burdett 5 Piece Dining Set for $236.99 (plus $11.85 tax, total is $248.84) and it was delivered for free.

It wasn’t the first time I bought from Wayfair. I bought a china cabinet for a relative a few years ago and received the item in good shape and on time.

The china cabinet is still stunning for an affordable price.

When I ordered for myself I was confident that I’ll get a quality customer service.

What’s in a Box

Before I share my experience in having the dining set, let’s have a look at some important details a customer would have to know.

Table Dimension: 35.4″ L x 35.4″ W x 29.4″ H
Chair Dimension: 32.7″ H x 18.1″ W x 16.5″ D
Table Shape: round
Table Top Material: manufactured wood
Table Base Colour: black
Seating Capacity: 4
Weight Capacity: 260 lb
Table Base Type: pedestal
Country of Origin: China

Next, I’ll tell you in details what are the pros and cons of the Burdett Dining Set.

What I Like

Three factors made Burdett a final choice; thus, ended my quest, hours of browsing on mobile devices.

Affordability. I didn’t pay attention to the prices of furniture until I have to buy a dining set.

Furnishing a house is expensive; fortunately, I found Burdett on Wayfair. There are other cheap options like in Walmart and on Facebook Marketplace but I don’t want to get a deal with low quality.

The best part, orders over $50 is delivered for free. You can also get $25 off a $150 order if you use a Wayfair credit card.

Portability. As someone who moves several times, I knew how hard it is to pack and unpack stuff. The nomadic life has drawn me to minimalism which helps immensely in my current moving in.

So whatever will go inside my apartment will be intentionally chosen. I should need or want it for a reason. And it should be easily transported from one place to another.

The Burdett has four chairs that can be easily folded. The table is light and comes with four legs that need to be screwed.

If I don’t need a chair, I can easily fold it. In fact, I used one chair to hold my printer.

I am grateful that friends helped me in moving my stuff. They were amazed how little stuff I have. In coming years, I want to maintain such lifestyle.

Durability. I am a petite and light person so I am confident that I wouldn’t break the chairs or the table. On the website, it says that the chair can hold up to 260 lb weight. Twice as mine.

I wouldn’t suggest anyone to use it as a stepping stool.

If you are light like me you may, but I wouldn’t dare because I live on my own and want to stay safe and independent.

What I Don’t Like

The only thing I don’t like about Burdett is the odd shape of the chair seat.

The back part of the chair is cut out. Seeing it on the website didn’t bother me at all but once I sat on it for several times, I hoped that the circle seat remain a circle.

I want to sit with my back touching the back of the chair. To sit properly is a challenge but important if I am to sit for a long time while I am eating or blogging.

The chair seat and table are made of manufactured wood with slippery surface.

So my butt tend to slide a bit and it felt like it was hanging as if I am sitting inside a congested jeepney full of people when one person should take the next ride instead.

Putting It Together

When shopping online I always read reviews and one common note about the dining set is how easy the table was assembled.

I would love to believe their claims. Nonetheless, I had contradicting experience.

It took me a few minutes to figure out what I was doing at almost midnight.

What goes where? How come a screw wouldn’t go through?

Then it clicked. Suddenly I figured it out just like the time I assembled an IKEA bed with drawers underneath; it was challenging and fun. But more like annoying.

The manual and the tiny allen wrench. Did the manual help me at all?

Tip: I will put a tape and write numbers on the legs if I am going to disassemble the table for whatever reason.

Seriously, no one should have a hard time putting together a furniture. It should be a fun and memorable experience symbolizing one’s independence as part of adulting.

Before I settle for Burdett I made a lot of research online and in store.

S0 next I’ll share the dining sets that kept me thinking while at work and up at night as I try to figure out who would win my picky, frugal heart and brain.

What Are My Options

I want a round dining set with a modern and minimalist twist that resembles Benita’s setup. What a lofty dream.

The Bowlin 5 Piece Dining Set for $279.99 was what I originally wanted to order but it was out of stock and the price (on sale) isn’t guaranteed to remain. Burham 5 Piece Dining Set and Avers look similar to Bowlin but more pricey.

Note: Bowlin has another design with a rectangular table and currently available online for the same price.

Well, I thought the chairs are not foldable and table is only 30 inches wide. And it’s more expensive. What a progress in the way I discourage myself whenever money is involve.

I better look for an alternative but deep in my heart I want it badly that I am willing to wait and stretch my budget.

A wobbly table at Walmart that made me question my frugality. Quality comes first.

For a brief moment I thought of buying this table from Walmart. It s affordable and portable. Also it’s cheap . . . and wobble. It’s something that wouldn’t last. Moving on.

My brain was sensible and practical enough to make the right decision.

I should stop eating on a yoga mat or chopping board right away; choices are available for those who will look with open eyes and mind.

Will I Buy Again from Wayfair

If I’ll ever need to buy a furniture, I will definitely buy again. Before I move, I started collecting indoor plants like pothos, aloe vera, and succulents.

Indoor gardening is my new hobby that helps me destress. It makes me happy to think I am breathing clean air from my plants.

So I am mulling if I should get a shelve for my plants. But before I do, I should get more small plants first. Don’t put the cart ahead of the horse.

My sanseveria thriving in the kitchen.

Should I do away with couch?

I don’t have a couch and think that it’s unnecessary. My few friends can drop by and we can hang out in the kitchen.

When I am at home, I spend my time cooking, cleaning, and sleeping. I blog on my study table and bed.

Because it’s summer, I go out with friends for a hike in and out of the city. Or I go for a walk around the neighbourhood.

Tip: Check the UV before going out in the sun. I use UV Lens, an app that tells the rate of UV based on a location.

This is quite a long post for a dining set. Speaking of dining, I am going to have a dinner and continue watching Down to Earth; you should give it a go.

One more question before I let you go, have you bought anything from Wayfair?
