It’s been years since I searched on the Internet on how to send money to Canada from the Philippines and I still remember how my siblings and I had a hard time back then.
Maybe I can’t recall a lot of information but I’m writing it anyway because I know somehow this post can help somebody going to the same difficulty that I had years ago.

Send Money to Canada from the Philippines Using Western Union
I’ll get to the point right away. My siblings were able to send my money to Canada from the Philippines using Western Union.
They had to go to a branch and send money to Canada several times.
Sample WU Remittance
Sender – PHP 101,250.00
Receiver – CAD 2,162.40
Transfer Fee – PHP 1,250.00
I was able to receive the money in a branch of Money Mart. Sometimes, I was able to get the money in cash (Canadian dollars). In another occasion, I get it in the form of money order which I then deposited to TD bank.
Tip: You can deposit the money order to a TD Bank account using the TD app.
Take a photo then upload it on the app. A teller showed me how to do it; I thought I can only deposit checks through the app.
Surprisingly, I ended up getting a TD Bank credit card which I never use and will let it expire.
What I’m interested in is a credit card for travel that can serve as an insurance for flight delay, cancellation, and other travel related issue and emergency.
For travelling, I use Home Trust Preferred Visa Card. I’m on a travel hiatus for now after travelling to Tokyo and New York this year. .

Why I Cannot Received Money to Canada from a Philippine Bank
The only thing I can remember was that it wasn’t possible for my siblings to send money from a Philippine bank to my Canadian bank.
I cannot exactly remember the reason why it wasn’t possible.
Although I can remit to a Philippine bank through my Canadian bank so why it isn’t possible to do the reverse transfer of funds. I haven’t sent money via a Canadian bank because it has higher fee and lower exchange rate.
I use Remitly in remitting cash in the Philippines to my family. Before that I used PayPal.
Is There a Better Way to Send Money to Canada from the Philippines
If a time will come again to receive money from the Philippines, I’ll probably rely on Western Union and Money Mart again although I don’t want to go to the latter if I can help it.
Money Mart is a lending business so when I went there a couple of times, it’s typical for me to wait and hear people discussing loan interest, balance, and other stuff I don’t want to be aware of but it’s within earshot.
My sibling also tried Wise but we didn’t like how high the fee was. We only tried it once then settled on Western Union.
I was thinking of opening a Wise account because most of the travel bloggers I read swear on how useful Wise is in terms of cashing currencies wherever is their destination.
Some Filipinos on Reddit mentioned that they use cryptocurrency to send money to the Philippines. This method and online currency is something that I am determined not to even try regardless of how I’ve been curious for years already.
Final Thoughts
When it comes to banking, I am still disappointed how the Philippine banks are getting behind the trend and technology especially in online banking.
I still cannot open an online Philippine bank account.
Recently, I learned about the Overseas Filipino Bank (OFBank) and will look into how is the customer service before signing up.
A few months ago I closed my PNB bank account which I was able to open in Canada because I cannot log in on the website and the app is overwhelmingly cumbersome to use. I guess I’ve been pampered by the ease of use of Canadian bank apps.
This post has mixed thoughts and rants about the Philippine banks that I felt I needed to mention that could turn into another blog post. If it does, I’ll try not to let it sit on draft for years before posting.
How do you send money to Canada from the Philippines? Is it through banks, cryptocurrency, or other financial business?
