As someone who grew up in a rental property, it is unusual for me to see houses being renovated or built from ground up.
But it also amazes me that I’m excited to watch the carpenters (my relatives) build a house. I once went down on the hole for the foundation; it was so deep the ground is higher than my mischievous head increasing my height to 4 feet. (From then on I didn’t grow that much.)
I still have the same amazement, probably even more, because we are going to build our own house. We finally bought a house and lot in the city. I’m like a child again having the same excitement (or more) knowing that we had to make home renovation.
Although I wouldn’t be there to watch the progress and changes, I’ll be doing what I do best from where I am. Research is my forte. Before we start the construction, my family will plan and discuss everything about building a house in the Philippines. Everyone’s idea matters and deserve to be heard. (Can we add a small pond for our old, thriving turtle?)
My first task and contribution to our family’s project is to find out where to buy construction materials in the Philippines. Your recommendation is highly needed right now so do leave a comment.
Here are the places that I found online where Filipinos can buy construction materials.
Top Hardware Stores
I’m glad to find out that there are growing number of hardware stores in the Philippines. Just like here in Canada, the stores in the Philippines are one-stop shop for every imaginable home construction or renovation.
Some are located in Manila while others are in provinces. While I can browse the websites, only few have prices or photos. For other websites, you will have to ask for a quote online or call the hardware store branch.
1. Wilcon Depot
It is the first store recommended by my sibling. It is well-known because it has 41 stores nationwide. I checked the website and found that most of the products don’t have photos and description.

Tip: WLCON is the symbol of Wilcon Corporation in the Philippine Stock Exchange. You can shop at Wilcon as a customer and also become a shareholder by buying stocks.
2. MC Home Depot
I spent a great deal of time reading the blog posts which I highly recommend.
Both Wilcon and MC Home Depot’s websites have missing products’ photos and description. As a consumer we do want to know what comes with the price that we are paying for. In spite of some drawbacks, I guess it would be worth visiting the three branches of MC Home Depot in Luzon area.

The list is not in any particular order. You may recommend a hardware store that you like anywhere in the Philippines.
Local Hardware Stores
What would be our childhood like without visiting a local hardware store where we can buy nails for a small diy project. (Mura pa ang tingi ng pako noon para sa picture frame o sa bahay ni bantay.)
You can check the online directory and look for the local hardware store near you. Is there still telephone directories publish by Directories Philippines Corporation?
But some small business don’t pay for advertising on the Internet or directory. Sometimes what you need is available in the local hardware store because in every neighborhood there’s a bakery, sari-sari store, and hardware store.
Compare the prices with big hardware stores and see if you can get the best deal considering the shipping cost if you’ll shop farther from your location.
Other Online e-Commerce Stores
I thought of adding this part on the list because you might find something cheaper online that you’ll likely need in building a house whether it’s a construction material, accessory, or furniture.
While assembling IKEA furniture can be fun and challenging, I am not a huge fan but I did enjoy going to the showroom and putting together a bed with drawers.
The IKEA products are stylish and affordable but I’m not sure about durability when it comes to furniture. When I moved to a new place, most of our stuff were bought in IKEA and Dollarama.
Hardware Stores Overseas
This doesn’t count . . . geographically. But when it comes to affordability I’m adding this tip for OFWs who are likely to send balikbayan boxes in the Philippines.
You can buy items from the hardware store in Canada which are cheaper than in the Philippines. I’m not sure why but if you like to choose what to put inside your house and save money then might as well buy in Canada and ship it to the Philippines.
- Canadian Tire
- Home Depot
- Home Hardware
- Lowe’s Canada
- Rona
I was able to buy bathroom accessories in Rona: towel bar, tissue holder, shower curtain, and towel ring. The shower rod is too long yet cheap. Sometimes you just have to let go but I will shop for other items that I might end up filling a balikbayan box.
Where’s else should you shop?
I bought in all of the stores above except on Overstock. Who doesn’t like HDMI cable for C$4.00 on Dollarama. And it works but not everything especially those with nuts and bolts.
Everyone seems to love hanging out in IKEA to shop. And when you’re tired getting lost, you can choose from various selection of foods. Kudos to IKEA for serving vegan meal and cinnamon.
I donated and shop in Value Village several times. But before I go to a thrift store I check other online stores for better deals. And lastly, Wayfair is another online only store. It’s like the counterpart of Amazon when it comes to home improvement.
To all the Canucks, did I miss any Canadian store where anyone can buy items to fill their home and would fit in a shipping box?
Final Thoughts
Cheaper overseas, sign up for the email list to stay updated to the deals, lke the facebook page
We made it this far. But I still have a few more tips. Before you buy anything plan first on how to build a house or renovate. Write it down. List all the materials and accessories then you can use the information on this post to get the best deal when you buy construction materials in the Philippines.
Sign up for the newsletter or like the Facebook page to stay updated with sales and events. For OFWs, we can still be part of the process of building a home. Go online and do your research. Do you like fossil grey for the bathroom paint? Don’t say magenta, please.
Do you have other tips on how you bought materials for home project? Share in the comment.

Not sure how you could have missed that MC Home Depot’s website has pictures. Also, of the local depots, MC Home Depot is the only one with a fully functioning shopping cart.
